Research and Compilation

The Rich Register is an independently researched, proprietary database of approximately 6,000 high net worth individuals. The product of 18 years of extensive, ongoing research, our database includes public and private company owners (retired and active), real estate owners, company founders who sold out years ago to become private investors, serial entrepreneurs, heirs to famous fortunes, and thousands of others.

Before an individual is listed in The Rich Register, we establish a net worth estimate that forms the basis for their profile and listing. We use a wide variety of sources during the research process, including Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) records, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) records, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records, state and municipality records, Dun & Bradstreet ® reports, financial and corporate reference guides, insider stock sales, media reports, and other sources.

We employ a wide variety of complex asset valuation techniques, depending on the type of asset. Generally, a market value is calculated for an individual's assets, which may include stock in public or private companies, real estate, proceeds from past company sales or insider stock sales, professional sports teams and other diverse assets.

Wealth estimates can include family-held assets and include only an individual's known holdings (e.g., we make no allowance or estimation for an individual's personal stock, bond or cash portfolio). Because wealth research is a difficult and imprecise endeavor, we calculate all net worth estimates conservatively. As a policy, professional athletes, entertainers, and others with primarily salary-based wealth are not evaluated.
